I recently had an appointment at the Endoscopy Service, Queen Margaret Hospital, for a colonoscopy.
I was naturally really anxious and nervous about the procedure and had been dreading it since getting the appointment.
I had my first meetings with Ness and Yvonne; they were both so friendly and reassuring and clearly explained the procedure.
Navia then took me for the procedure and I felt scared again. She was also kind and reassuring and made me feel better. Navia sat beside me throughout, checking I was alright and taking my blood pressure. I really appreciated her being there.
James did the colonoscopy and Rachel assisted him. I opted not to have a sedative and James was so skilful that, although sometimes slightly uncomfortable, it was not painful. Rachel was friendly and they both explained what they were doing as I watched on screen.
Navia then took me to a ward to recover.
I was looked after by Scott and he was so cheerful, friendly and professional as he went through forms with me and called my friend to pick me up.
I particularly appreciated the printout James provided, detailing exactly what he'd done, areas of inflammation where he'd taken biopsies, and reassurance that he had not found anything of real concern.
I can't speak too highly of the entire team; they made an embarrassing procedure that I had been absolutely dreading, almost feel like normal! I was also treated with respect and felt that they maintained my dignity throughout.
I am very grateful to them all for their care, kindness and professional skills.
Many thanks.
