Our daughter was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss in August 2023. This means she has had hearing loss since birth but it hadn't been picked up by either us, her family or school.
Since our very first appointment with the paediatric audiology team, we have had such amazing support and service. After the initial diagnosis, we didn't wait long for follow up and provision of first hearing aids.
The additional support from the Sensory team at Fife Council was also wonderful. Our daughter had a Soundfield system set up in her classroom and her teachers given support to ensure her learning needs are met. We have since been provided with additional technology to support her learning in her external language classes. It has made all the difference. We have seen our daughter deal with her diagnosis with remarkable maturity and really flourish with her ability to hear.
At every contact, our daughter had amazing empathic, friendly and fun contact with the team. She was able to open up and share her worries, ask questions with confidence and given lots of time in the appointments to check she understood and was confident using the hearing aids. This has been great for her parents too! We've been able to feel confident that our daughter is dealing with this big life adjusting news, in her way. We've been given time to ask questions and get our heads around the technology...albeit with the firm understanding that it's our daughter who is the expert and more than capable of managing it all, with just a bit of guidance from us and the back up of the Paediatric audiology team.
I can't recommend the team enough. Elise, Lead Paediatric Audiologist; Jonny, Audiologist; and Brian, Educational Audiologist. Thank you all so so much.
"Thank you all so so much."
