"Lack of care and recognition of acute cases"

About: Cowal Community Hospital (formerly Dunoon General) / General Psychiatry

(as a service user),

Disgusted by NHS highland.

Loved one who has been previously under a psychiatrist in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has been offered a crisis referral follow up with an occupational therapist with a CBT qualification. Waited 6 months to be seen by the individual following an urgent crisis referral made by their GP. Is this appropriate care or just a tick box audit to say it’s been met?

On the first appointment after 6 months of waiting was told the CBT might not be appropriate given their complex background and if that was the case would be waiting much longer to be seen by the right people . Why send a patient with this background in the first place? Appreciate there are gaps in employment in the NHS, however do these patients just have to wait till posts filled? Absolute disgrace.

Should have been reviewed within a couple of weeks with a crisis referral . Why is a brain disability mental health condition not treated the same as physical health? Not the first time we have experienced this with mental health services and their lack of care and recognition of acute cases . In my opinion they are not meeting the set standards of care stipulated for these patients .

No disrespect to the individual who was put in this position either . Novel idea perhaps, how about triaging these patients within the recommended time frame to ascertain their need and mental health state and then send them to the appropriate person ?

Expect this to go nowhere, as previously stated, not the first time for my family and still dealing with the aftermath of lack of care.

As I expected my story has been read with absolutely no response whatsoever.

How can we promote quality improvement clinical governance and meet patients needs appropriately if no one seems bothered to respond?
