I went to the doctor 2 and a half years ago about my prostate and was dissuaded from having a blood PSA test.
Went the end of last year and a new trainee doctor did an examination felt nothing but was given a blood test. It came back very high. I had another one to confirm the result. I was then quickly given an appointment which confirmed the cancer. I was then quickly given other test and eventually had my prostate removed at the end of February and am now recovering.
I felt shocked at the beginning but have been well supported throughout my treatment by the staff at Barnstaple hospital urology department. I also received good care at Exeter hospital and had excellent treatment from my surgeon.
The only negative minor issue was after the surgery the nurse put the wrong catheter lock on my leg which resulted in having to call the district nurse out over the weekend. But on the plus side we dialled 111, they got in touch with our local district nurse who sent out a nurse to sort it out.
The only other issue is Exeter is 2 hours away and it would be nice when they made appointments to consider travelling times.
"Well supported through prostate cancer treatment"
