About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Ear, nose and throat

(as the patient),

I had my first appointment at ENT before covid and was referred to the consultant for a follow up appointment to decide whether I needed surgery.

ENT closed down during covid and then in 2022 I was contacted to say did I want to remain in the waiting list or remove myself from this. I said I wished to stay on list to see consultant.

I was finally seen by the consultant in late 2023 and they said I would be put to the top of the waiting list and be operated on quickly. I got my date for my operation for early 2024 and then got my pre-op assessment done.

I was then contacted the next day and had my operation cancelled due to the fact I am overweight and I was advised to lose 5kgs. I have had no further contact since and no one has been in touch to see if I have lost the weight and to give me a new date for surgery.

I think it’s ridiculous that after 4 years I still have had no surgery and that I’ve had no contact from them to find out if I’ve lost any weight and to reschedule my surgery.

I realise that people have a lot more wrong with them than me but to go for 4 years and more unable to breathe through my nose, have no taste or smell is ridiculous.

Thank you for your recent comment in relation to your waiting time on an operation and the lack of contact from the ENT department. I understand that this must be extremely frustrating for yourself and I apologise that we have not been in touch with yourself.

Once again my operation has been cancelled, Surgeon says it can’t be done yet as I have not had a CT scan. ENT have had since December 2023 to arrange for me to have a CT scan so why was this not arranged before my first cancelled operation in February and more importantly why has it not been arranged between February 2024 and now if it is an essential part of my procedure. My operation was cancelled with one weeks notice which surely could have been enough time for the CT scan to be done prior to my operation. Feel totally let down by the system
