My wife regularly gets infusions at the medical unit at St John's Hospital. She can often be there for 4 -5 hours each week so can get cold and uncomfortable without extra cushioning.
She has asked a number of times over the past 3 months about getting a pillow and blanket for duration of treatment but has been told by staff the hospital has a severe shortage of the pillows and blankets and that ward doesn't have those items or they are have one or two pillows they are wiping down after each patient, so we have been having to bring our own items which is inconvenient and causes concern about spreading infections in that type of environment.
My wife was recently admitted to hospital and told by porter and nurses about the ongoing pillow, blanket and mattress shortage in the hospital that sounds like it has been going on for a long time with no improvements in sight.
It's hard to understand how we can be having supply issues with such basic items. I hope the Lothian health board can address this ASAP!!!!
