"Chest pain and phoning 999"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Acute Medical Initial Assessment Scottish Ambulance Service / Ambulance Control Centre Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

I have a heart condition and experienced chest pain  I used my GTN spray but was still experiencing some pain. I phoned 999 and was helped by a very compassionate operator who informed me that the ambulance could be between 55mins and a hour and half! The ambulance arrived within 20 mins and the two paramedics were excellent! I have forgotten their names but are based at Fraserburgh depot. We arrived at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and were ushered straight to ward 101. I was assessed by the staff and doctors and after 5 hours of sympathetic caring I was allowed home as the pain was diagnosed as muscular and not a MI.

Dear Grags

Thank you so much for getting in touch to let us know of your experience.

What you mention sounds frightening and thank goodness you didn't have to wait too long for our crew to arrive. I'm thrilled your describe our staff as excellent, it sounds as though they made a real difference.

If you would like me to pass on your kind words to our crew and call handler, I would be happy to do this for you. If you would like this to happen, please may I ask you email our Feedback team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your mum's name and address and the dates of when we attended. It would be really helpful if you made reference to your CareOpinion user name which will allow us to link to your story.

I hope you are feeling much better now

All the very best

Lesley
