"Broken humerus"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / General Surgery (Ward 7) Borders General Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (Ward 9)

(as a service user),

I tripped and landed on my outstretched right arm. Was taken to A&E at Borders General Hospital and triaged immediately.

I was then taken straight to x-ray and this confirmed breaks in my humerus. I was given pain meds and right arm placed in an immobiliser. Appointment with consultant the following week, then ORIF surgery a week after. Two night stay in ward 9.

Three weeks later Appointment with consultant and another x-ray, another operation was necessary to remove/replace a few screws. Another night B&B on ward 7 and so far so good.

Physio has started but this will be a long process to return to the new normal for me!
