"I was extremely upset and discharged myself"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

They knew I was coming a week beforehand but when I got there I had to wait 5 hours for a bed. This wouldn't have bothered me except when I got to Branston Ward I had a whole bay to myself and was told it had been empty all day.

Second while I was waiting I was offered no food. As I had 2 hypos and was offered nothing to help my sugars to come back up, my partner had to leave me and go out and find me food. When I got to Branston I was still offered nothing, even though being type 1 diabetic I need proper meals.

Third they wouldn't give me my normal meds which I take at home. I've been on strong painkillers at home for 7 years and I kept asking for them and they kept telling me they would sort it but never did. The staff was constantly snapping at me making me feel very uncomfortable and stressed and 1 staff member made a comment about me loud enough that I heard at the end of the ward, which was the final straw for me. I was extremely upset and discharged myself, which I shouldn't have had to have done, I was in far too much pain, but I didn't want to be in that hostile environment any longer.

Dear authenticfk47

I am so sorry that your visit to Branston was not within expectations. I would really like to understand and unpick the reasons and rationale behind this further as we need as a team to reflect and ensure that this does not happen in future.

We are in the process of implementing new paperwork to support prompting of refreshments and ensuring flagging patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes so that these can be managed and supported appropriately whilst within our care.

Please can you provide me with your full name and date of birth so that I can review your notes and ensure this is shared with the team for future learning. I am so sorry that your care needs were not supported appropriately but I want to ensure that we make improvements moving forward.

Kindest regards

Lisa
