I contacted NHS 24 in the early morning on a Saturday. My son was reviewed at Hamilton and diagnosed with viral tonsillitis, even though I disputed this with the nurse and GP as he was unwell. I had asked for antibiotics due to my son being unwell, having a fever and requiring paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly to keep his temperature down. My son had a constant sore head, sore throat struggling to speak and swallow. He was also shivering and not eating much.
I was told that if white spots appeared on his tonsils that he would be able to get antibiotics. I asked for this to be documented in case this happened, so as my child would receive the appropriate care. This was documented, I was assured of this. My son was still unwell with regular temperatures, sore throat and headaches. I checked his tonsils, seen white spots. I then phoned NHS 24 again in the evening of same day. I waited 2 hours to be told unfortunately my son could not be seen or given treatment. I should wait until Monday and phone again or go to accident and emergency.
Quite frankly I am disappointed in his care given by NHS Lanarkshire at present. My son is my priority and I feel listening to parents should be valued and not dismissed. I feel my son and I have been dismissed and I am disgusted with his care. I hope I do not need to take him to accident and emergency and I can treat him safely at home until he is treated by his own GP.
