"Gallbladder surgery cancelled 1.5 weeks into liver shrinking diet"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / General surgery

(as the patient),

After being on a near starvation diet of low fat yoghurt and milk for a week and a day I now find out that struggle which I’m sure you’ll take very lightly was for no reason at all because my surgery has been cancelled out of nowhere by telephone call I now feel mentally unwell as I’ve been waiting a long time for this and it only had to be done for me to be able to have another surgery I’ve been waiting 10 years for!

Absolutely no care has been put into my mental health after this cancellation out of the blue and quite frankly I feel like I want to kill myself now as I see no other end to this waiting

It is disgusting treatment!  I don’t feel confident about having any operations performed at royal Cornwall hospital in Truro which I have to drive 52.3 miles taking 3hours to Make a round trip for every appointment because I live the Cornwall side of the river tamar to be seen in Plymouth which is far far closer!

I was hospitalised via ambulance in my actual local hospital of derriford in Plymouth in October of last year with extreme pain in my abdomen and I was sent home with no pain relief to suffer alone and in private and await surgery in Truro now to be told this I feel like the victim of some colossal sick joke this has made me very unwell mentally as well as physically and I expect nothing will come of this complaint either because I’m used now to the low level of treatment the NHS cornwall provides for me.

Good afternoon Riana

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. I am so sorry to read that you have had such a negative experience.

I was saddened to read that your surgery was cancelled after such a long wait and having to follow such a strict diet. This is very frustrating and I am sorry that it has affected your life this way.

I am also sorry that you had a similar negative experience last year in October which also affected you both physically and mentally.

If you would like to raise this with the team as a complaint, please contact the Patient Experience team via telephone on 01872 252 793. The phonelines are open Monday to Friday, 10 am - 4 pm but an answerphone facility is in operation outside of these times. You can also contact our team via email rcht.patientexperience@nhs.net

thank you, again for sharing your story with us and I am very sorry that you have had such a negative experience.

Thank you

Megan
