I took my teenage daughter to a sexual health drop in clinic in my local health centre, so she could get put on the pill, as she has a boyfriend and it is better to be safe than sorry.
So when we got seen by one of the nurses they were very intimidating. They kept asking my daughter if she was sexually active. They asked about 3 or 4 times within the time we were in the room. On which my daughter kept replying no but still this nurse kept asking. They were also asking if we know it is against the law to have sex under the age of 16. All these things I know they are meant to say but it was very intimidating for a 15 year old to hear. All she wanted was to go on the pill. These kind of clinics are meant to help and support you but this felt like a lecture on don't have sex at all. Teenagers will be teenagers and they will explore.
They were also asking my daughter if she likes boys instead of girls. When my daughter replied yes I like boys instead of girls, the nurse just looked at my daughter. It felt very judgemental and as I said before, intimidating.
This does not make my daughter want to go back to this clinic.
