"Unexpected birth 5 weeks early"

About: Maternity care / Consultant Led Unit Victoria Hospital / Neonatal Unit

(as a service user),

So after being in pain through out the night I phoned maternity for advice. They advised to come in for a check. On arrival finding out I was 8cm dilated was a bit of a shock at 35 weeks pregnant. Within an hour my baby shot in to the world! Was all a little bit of a blur but a student nurse Allana and staff nurse Fiona were by my side and were amazing ! I didn’t catch everyones' names as she was whipped away to NICU who were all absolutely incredible. Looked after me, my daughter and my family ❤️. Forever grateful for red staff in the delivery unit and NICU xx

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Being 5 weeks early must have been a shock for you, and not what you were expecting!. I hope you and your daughter are recovering well and tucked up cosy at home.

Thank you for permitting our student midwife to participate in your care. Even during what I am sue was a stressful time you have aided in the learning of a midwife and helped women in the future.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your positive experience. Our team work very closely together and we are glad that their teamwork and skills aided in the safe care of you and your daughter.

Thank you again, I will share your kind words.

Pamela Higgins

Clinical Inpatient Midwifery manager.
