At first when the GP had said to me about occupational therapy, I felt like I couldn't be bothered as I've had experience in the past with physiotherapy and it didn’t work out well for me, but I thought just do it as the GP had asked.
Right away when Sarah came she was lovely and she put me at ease. I have ME and she really understood what I was going through. She was able to go in depth with me about my condition and really explain everything that was going on. She got me access to equipment that I needed that I thought I would have never gotten. She came out to check the equipment was okay and reassured me that it was okay if I was in my pyjamas on the visit and even called me just before so I could leave the door open to let herself in. I just felt so much more comfortable where I felt she really understood what I was dealing with.
Sarah has spent time with me, listened, asked questions and really understood. I knew she had also worked with many patients who had ME as well and she just got it. I felt for the first time in a long time than someone in the health service was really listening to me and really understood what was going on. If I needed her she was there and she kept in touch with me by email to check in on how I was doing, she sent me loads of links and information that she thought might help me and didn’t put any pressure on me. She just explained. That was great.
All of the experience I had was excellent. Sarah also said that in the future if I needed her or occupational therapy again that I could get in touch with the department directly, without trying to call through to the GP, which can be so difficult. This is really great.
