"Exorcise of basal cell curcinoma"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Dermatology Ruby Country Medical Group

(as the patient),

My appointment went really well. All the staff are friendly and the procedure was well explained to me.

The advice given for after care was very clear and although I was very careful with the wound being in an awkward place on my face, I ended up with an infection. I contacted my general practice and the doctor rang me back within a few moments asking me to send a picture of my eye and then he prescribed me some antibiotics as he agreed that he thought it was infected .

Unfortunately, while cleaning the wound at the end of the my working day, the skin came away from my stitches, so I immediately went down to the medical practice who managed to get a nurse to look at my wound. The duty doctor has also looked at it took a picture which he then sent to Litchdon house for them to view . As agreed the duty doctor sent this picture to Litchdon house who then contacted me to arrange an appointment for me to see them the following day. I was extremely grateful that they could fit me in and look at my wound which they cleaned, removed the stitches and replaced with Steri-Strips. I had already been given antibiotics so this had started to work as well..

Overall, I have been very pleased with how I was dealt with at Ruby country, medical practice and Lichten house at Barnstable.

Dear fluters57,

Thank you for sharing your Care Opinion story, it sounds like you had a bit of a ride post operatively!

Firstly, well done for taking the appropriate precautions, unfortunately, sometimes infections are unavoidable, I am pleased to hear your GP handled this efficiently and that you received antibiotics promptly.

I am sorry to hear the stitches came away at the wound site, the delicate area around the eyes are tricky areas and again the fragile skin can make fixtures more vulnerable than other areas of the body.

I am pleased to hear you had contact with us to review the wound.

It is great to hear overall you had a positive experience with both Dermatology and your GP surgery.

Kind regards

Alicia
