"Fantastic care and support received at Clinical Radiology Ninewells"

About: Ninewells Hospital / General Surgery Ninewells Hospital / Xrays and scans

(as the patient),

I had a liver biopsy procedure that was professionally performed by Dr Murchison and supported by Dr Foster at Clinical Radiology Ninewells. Both doctors were excellent with their explanations regarding the procedure. The procedure as you would expect comes with risks.

However, these risks were clearly explained to the point the benefits of having the procedure outweighed the risks.  I felt totally safe in their hands.  🙌   The patient information leaflet was very clear about what was going to happen and what was expected of me which I took accountability for.

About an hour after the operation Dr Murchison and Dr Foster visited me in the nursing station to check on my recovery.  This was very reassuring as was the feedback that a good sample had been obtained.

Dr Foster made two further visits one of which was just before discharge. Again very reassuring and also an opportunity to ask any questions I may have had.

On entering the ward Abbie and Val done the necessary paperwork and were happy to answer any questions and offer any care and support to make me as comfortable as possible. And this they did in abundance throughout the 6 recovery period. Nothing was any trouble for them nor any of the other nursing staff / student who were supporting the nursing station.

I was continually monitored during my 6 hour recovery period. Thankfully there was no need for any further medical intervention but if there was I would have been in safe hands.

I appreciate there are times when things don’t go so well for some patients but I can truly say with much gratitude the care and support I was provided with was exemplary. I even got some lunch which was much appreciated as well as tasty. 😋. So thanks to kitchen staff also.

Thanks also to those in administrative team who arrange the appointments and the reception staff. I have been at the clinical radiotherapy department a few times recently and on every occasion I am always greeted by helpful staff. Thank you for being so welcoming.

I really wanted to share this story to give positive feedback on the service provided by NHS Scotland.   I do feel we are blessed to have such a service.

Thank you all.
