I met Specialist Physiotherapist Justine from the Orthopaedic Interface Team, whose objective was to assess the problems occurring with my Left Knee.
Justine asked me about the different problems I was experiencing and she had my 3 x rays of my left knee on her computer screen. I explained the pain I was having just on one side of the knee in particular, how it affected my general moving and how active the pain seemed to be during the night - especially as my right knee was resting on that left knee while asleep. I also explained my fears of surgery. I had a total right knee arthroscopy in 2019, this followed by complications because of the trauma of the operation. My Kidneys suffered a technical AKI, my eGFR prior to the operation was 50 plus but dropped to 25 post-operation.
The actual healing of the right knee took about 7 months, the incision would not heal, probably due to my complex multi diagnoses including an immune disease, type 2 diabetes, and chronic asthma with repeated infections. Justine listened to the history of my knee problems, looked at the x rays, including past hip x rays, and asked further relevant and pertinent questions.
Justine then outlined the options I have, which could be do nothing at present, individual Physiotherapy, and also mentioned a specialist group therapy involvement, also mentioning the possibility of partial surgical intervention when appropriate.
I decided on physiotherapy for now, to hopefully help me improve the present condition of my left knee and to help understand more about the problem.
A very structured and informative appointment with hopeful outlook to improve the use of the knee. I would say that Justine was very expert at listening to my problem. Thank you Justine.
