Recently I was on the day surgery unit, sat in the waiting rooms sobbing, shaking, hyperventilating. The nurses were all very kind and supportive, making sure I felt comfortable and supported and ready and able to have surgery. Every single person I spoke to and met went above and beyond to ensure I was feeling safe and informed.
Specifically one nurse, Jenice. If it was up to me she would have every care award known to man and be paid billions, she was so amazing, consistently checking up on me, making jokes and lightening the mood, ensuring I felt brave and confident. She was there every time I needed help and had any questions, her energy and personality was calming and almost parental, as if it was my own parents looking after me as a child - that is how calm and safe I felt.
Despite all my anxieties and fears the surgery went very well with no major complications. Everyone on the day ward, surgery and recovery unit and ward 24 (I believe I was on) deserves more gratitude and thanks and kudos than I could possibly give in a lifetime. If it wasn't for the nurses, anaesthetists, HCAs etc I would never have been able to do the surgery.
Thank you MKUH for an exponentially positive experience.
