"The Care during the COVID Pandemic"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital New Stobhill Hospital / Gynaecology Clinic The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

So at the start of the COVID pandemic in 2020, i was having some strange symptoms. My GP got me in quickly despite everything going on and arranged for some tests to be done and also referred me to the Stobhill Gynaecology. I was diagnosed with early stage Endometrial Cancer.

It wasn't the news i wanted to hear and because i was alone in the room when i was told, the nurses allowed me to have my mum in the room with me as i was too upset. I had to make the tough decision to undergo a Hysterectomy in my 20s.

Over the next month and a bit, all the staff who were with me when i was getting CTs and MRIs were really supportive and sympathetic. When it came to the day of my operation, my consultant spoke with me about everything they were going to do. She was so kind and understood that i would be so upset about this difficult decision. I was taken first to theatre and whilst waiting to go in to the operating room, a young nurse stayed with me as i was so upset about what was about to happen.

After my surgery whilst i was recovering on the ward, the nurses where so kind to me. I couldn't thank them enough as i knew there was a lot going on with all the changes due to COVID. The following day, i was discharged home and even then, the nurses helped me with my bag out to the car. Now when i see my consultant or radiographers, they are so welcoming and reassuring. This year will now be my 4th year cancer free and I want to thank all the staff that helped me out through this tough time during the start of the COVID Pandemic.
