"Went above and beyond in many small ways"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was under the care of Dr Sokolova consultant gynaecologist in Crosshouse Hospital for an oophorectomy (ovary removal) due to cysts.

The team at Crosshouse hospital were fantastic. Not only were they warm, caring and professional but they went above and beyond in many small ways.  Dr Sokolova herself offered an extra fallopian tube removal to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer prior to surgery which was above and beyond and I was very grateful for the offer. This seems quite a throwaway statement, it meant a lot. She also came personally to tell me of the difficulty they had (I think the cysts were quite knotted and clingy to other vital parts of my body) after surgery. I am grateful to her and her team for their patience with this added difficulty. This is very subjective but Dr Sokolova’s manner, I have to say, was very comforting before and after surgery. She was warm but also gave a sense of assurance and confidence which was a welcome reassurance prior to surgery.

I was also told that my surgery would be done partly robotically. How lucky. This not only cuts down recovery time but also reduces risks. This I have read latterly is down to Dr Sokolova and her team pioneering this treatment.

There was also a woman in theatre (I’m not sure what her title is) who held my hand as they were prepping me for surgery. She was more calming and reassuring than she’ll probably ever know - I will appreciate her kind face, distracting chat and her hand squeeze forever.

The anaesthetist team were super, friendly, informative and calming too. Explaining everything gently.

I am blown away by the recovery nurses too. Couldn’t do more, bright and friendly and just what you need as you’re coming to.

Thank you thank you thank you…..never enough. I am grateful beyond all measure.
