Recently I had a follow up appointment re pregnancy at Ulster Hospital Maternity. The team were excellent as ever - however what is transforming the experience is the addition of the app to manage my care, results and appointments. I heart Encompass, so kudos for the team adapting to the changes - it will be transformational for informed care.
I had to phone a different department for a 20 week scan - and the provider advised they’d send a letter. I asked if it was on the app - they didn’t know but on opening the address all relevant information was provided instantly.
Improvement suggestion: why have women to phone a different department for an essential part of their maternity care? Women are to phone after booking scan - so why not have that facility to request in app or have appointments automatically generated at that early stage. There is a better way of integrating that care to ensure women are making that appointment and ensuring their babies receive best intra parting care. Oh, and put the QR codes to the information leaflets online in there too… keep driving adoption by putting useful resources on there. Why not add the pregnancy yoga booking etc etc.
Finally - I have previously had to phone up to cancel appointments after a miscarriage. Please have a process around that that support women - again that can notify via the app, or an ability to email rather than having to ring to a busy line and tell a receptionist very difficult news (that’s a lot for the frontline team to carry as well).
Oh and instantly urine results arrived - at least I know why we’re always peeing in pots 🤣.
