Recently I had the second of an 8 week (I believe) group course on foundations of change. I am getting a lot out of going to it so far, if anything it is keeping me focused on my recovery from alcohol addiction.
My sober journey has been littered with lots of catastrophic happenings which led me ultimately in to hospital following a 4th seizure. I stayed there for 12 days and was detoxed by the hospital, for which I'm grateful. I had isolated myself away from CGL for a while but the first thing I did was to contact my key worker (Mark) and arrange to see him. This kick started me attending various sessions at CGL Wisbech. I am now 28 days sober and know in my heart that CGL have been a massive support in this.
Adrian is the tutor of the foundations of change course, he is informative, knowledgeable and makes each session dialogue heavy, this encourages conversation with all in attendance, which I find a much better way of presenting this kind of course. I always feel encouraged to participate, never feel 'the odd one out' and am thoroughly enjoying it. Adrian is approachable too and seems to have a knack of getting everyone's input!
I suffer with high anxiety disorder and really struggle going out anywhere socially but I'm finding that I look forward to my Fridays at CGL and this is down to the staff, in particular my Keyworker (Mark) and Adrian. I honestly feel that whilst I continue to engage and accept the help, advice and support being offered to me, I am in the best position to stay clean and sober. Thank you so very much. A sober me is a happy one. Thank you especially to Adrian, his understanding of the disease of alcoholism is something that comes through in his chats with me, I don't open up to people that easily through fear of judgement or ignorance so hence me typing with such a positive tone.
