I had a leg injury caused by a horse jumping and then landing on me, crushing me between horse and fence, whilst at the beach (600kg of horse).
A bystander, who happened to be a GP, saw the incident and checked me over, and sat with me for about half an hour after I almost collapsed. They suggested that I may want to go to my GP and ask for some painkillers and muscle relaxants if over the counter relief wasn't sufficient.
I attended minor injuries following advice from GP receptionist.
Whilst initially pleasant, the report sent to the GP didn't reflect what I had said happened, and they made out that I was a drug seeker.
I feel they downplayed the injury, stating the horse pushed me into fence, no mention of the fact that the horse landed on me.
They then stated that I had come in asking for diazepam, that apparently, my GP told me to ask for muscle relaxants. I did ask for muscle relaxants as I had been advised to at the time of the injury (by a qualified professional who witnessed the incident). I did not ask for diazepam - I was not aware diazepam was used for a muscle relaxant.
My impression was from the minute the Clinician saw a history of depression, they decided that I was drug seeker, that I was dishonest. Perhaps that is why they made light of my injury, and did not do a thorough examination.
They told me I could expect to be in significant pain for 2 weeks, and to buy cocodamol. I accepted their advice and left. At no point did I dispute anything, even though I was in a lot of pain. I accepted their advice and got on with it.
However, when seeing the report sent to the GP, and the fact that a different version to events was written than what I said, I was appalled.
I feel they showed complete disrespect to a patient, no care, and worse, an attitude and things written that may cause my GP to believe I lied and tried to get diazepam!
How can any Clinician justify being so bad at listening, writing what I feel was a negative, biased report, that as someone with a mental health diagnosis I was clearly just seeking drugs, and not a genuine patient?
Incredibly upset and hurt by these implications. Should I ever have to go to Minor Injuries again, and I will do everything to avoid it, I will write my answers rather than speak. It would have been better just to contact and offer a precautionary x-ray.
Beyond disgusted by the report sent, and I can only hope that an accurate report is sent, or at least an amendment detailing the incident accurately.
