I recently had surgery for a scaphoid repair with bone graft. The bone graft was taken from my pelvis so my mobility was limited.
Before being given my discharge papers by the nurse, I was not even asked if I had been to the toilet or offered anything to eat. But it had been marked off on the board that I had. It was only when I asked to go to the toilet that two healthcare workers asked me those questions ,they then helped me go to the toilet by putting a commode next to my bed.
Then one of them got me a gluten free sandwich made from the kitchen and personally went to get it, they went above and beyond, unfortunately I do no know their names but they went above and beyond to help me.
However, the nurse that gave me my discharge papers did not ask any of those questions and did not appear to care about my pain levels. This was the only nurse that made my experience in hospital not very nice, I feel they were not caring, it was as if they didn't want to look after me.
All the other staff that I saw that day were absolutely amazing and so kind and helpful. My experience was only spoilt by that one member of staff.
After eating my sandwich, I was given some strong pain relief for my journey home before being allowed to leave the ward, again this nurse was absolutely amazing.
