I recently attended the outpatient department at the New Victoria Hospital, Glasgow for a Gastroscopy.
I wasn't looking forward to the procedure but felt reassured from the moment I arrived at the Endoscopy department. The receptionist was friendly and welcoming and she checked me in efficiently. I was waiting for a only a few moments when a lovely Irish nurse (Andrea I think) called my name and walked me round to the bay where she prepared me for my procedure. Everything was explained well and there was the opportunity to ask any questions that I had.
The Endoscopy Unit was busy but the staff have a created a calm atmosphere and it appears to run like a well-oiled machine. When I was taken round to the Endoscopy Suite to have the Gastroscopy procedure, Kerry, Sinead and Colin introduced themselves and were a very reassuring team of professionals. They took me through what the procedure would involve and how the sedation would be administered. Before I knew it, the procedure was over and I was back round at the bay with little recollection of what had just occurred. I was given a copy of the Gastroscopy Report and again there was the opportunity to ask any questions. A member of staff made me tea and toast before I left and she checked on me a couple of times to ensure all was well.
My overall feeling leaving the department was one of excellent person-centred care delivered in a very caring and professional manner. Thank you.
