"Gave me the push I needed to change my life"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as the patient),

I had an experience or “flare up” where I lost all my energy and couldn’t do basic things, even walking was a chore. My quality of life went downhill and I started to think what’s the point of it all, the more I thought about it, the more negative thoughts I had. I eventually got an appointment with the COPD clinic who referred me to NHS Inclusion Thurrock.

Within a week I had a call from them asking if I would like to join a trial group that they were putting together to help people with COPD and suffering negative thoughts. They gave us tasks each week to guide us in changing our thought process. The course was for 4 weeks with a follow up call from a therapist each week who enquired on our progress.

My attitude towards even the most daunting task has changed during the course. After struggling for so long I realise now that you don’t have to struggle alone, there is help out there and it is good to talk.

I needed this group to give me the push I needed to change my life and can’t thank them enough.

Hi wearingjr54,

Thanks so much for leaving this review, we appreciate the time you took to write it and your willingness to share with others.

It sounds like things were starting to become very difficult for you when you had that initial flare up. Those negative thoughts and feelings of hopelessness that you were having will have fed into each other; and so it's no wonder that you felt like you were on a downhill spiral.

We are delighted to hear that the COPD group was able to help lift you out of that dark place. This never would have happened without your hard work and willingness to engage. I am sure that attending the group and completing homework was a challenge but you pushed yourself and can now reap the benefits of the change you see in your life.

Thank you again for sharing and best of luck with the future.

Warm regards,

Clare
