"My Brother"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Initial Assessment Unit

(as a service user),

I took my brother to his doctor who expressed her urgency to get my brother to the hospital for attention. Upon arrival, we were asked to sit and wait. We waited for 2 hours to be taken into a curtained-off area where his blood pressure was taken. We were then told we had to wait until someone came to take blood which took a further 2 hours. We sat for approximately 7 hours by which time my brother became delirious. I asked for assistance to be told he was not at the top of the list and that they were busy, to which I stated that I needed assistance. He was then given a trolley to lie on in the corridor. I left my brother at 11.45 pm. He died just 1 week later.
