"Had a really positive impact on my daily life"

About: Community Forensic Services / Nottinghamshire MBT Service

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

The Mentalisation Based Treatment group had a really positive impact on my daily life. I made good attachments and found it refreshing meeting people with the same struggles. It helped being able to practise mentalizing in a safe environment and the facilitators were wonderful.

Sometimes the group was overstimulating, and perhaps smaller groups might have been more helpful.

I think if you’re willing and mentally available to learn the skills, it is life changing – thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your experience of the MBT group. It is good to hear of the positive impact it has had on your life by being able to practice mentalizing in a safe environment. It is understandable that group therapy can be overstimulating, particularly as therapy can stir up some powerful emotions/feelings to work through. We acknowledge group numbers increasing can be daunting and I hope your monthly individual appointments with your MBT practitioner helped you to explore the benefits of having more minds in the room. As a service we have carefully considered optimum group sizes and feel that a maximum of 8 people works well within the MBT model.

I hope you can to continue consolidating all the work you have achieved so far and want to thank you again for sharing your experience of MBT with us.

Wishing you all the best for the future,

Amy

Dear MBTGrad1,

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences of the MBT Therapy group. It's great to hear that you have taken so much from this therapy and all that you've done in the group/worked on is having a day to day impact.

As Amy has said, the nature of group therapy can create times where things can feel a bit much but it's great that you continued with the group and have found being with others with similar struggles has been worth it.

I hope that you are able to continue to build on all you have learnt/developed/practised.

Very best wishes for the future, Louisa

Louisa Hagan - Community Forensic Service Manager
