I would like to share our experience of the care provided to our mother at the end of life, by the Grove District Nursing Team.
As a community staff nurse myself, for many years I was fully aware of the process of bringing a relative home for end of life care and the challenges this would bring for both the my mum as the patient, our family and the district nursing team. Our mum was a wonderful lady, an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She was fun, kind, caring and compassionate, with a listening ear and open door for us all. She was diagnosed with advanced Multiple Myeloma in 2016 and despite many setbacks she beat the odds and fought a tough battle for six years with great courage and bravery.
In autumn 2022, a rapid decline in her condition led to her making the decision to have no further treatment and to return home to her family for end of life care. It was Grove District Nursing Team who were involved in the planning and delivery of care for our mum at the end of life. They were amazing! We got nine weeks at home with our mum, during which we had quality family time and intimate moments that are precious in our memories.
Despite the heartache of losing our precious mum, we are grateful for this time and we are thankful and appreciative for the professional and dedicated care that the Grove District Nursing Team provided for our mum and for the support we as her family received also. I am so proud to call you my team and I will never forget the difference you all made to our lives at that time. Thank you for everything. No words are enough!
"Professional and dedicated care"
