"I will never be able to thank them enough for keeping me alive"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Hairmyres / Coronary Care Unit

(as the patient),

Whilst visiting my brother and his family in Cambuslang in late January, I had a heart attack in the early hours of Sunday morning. Thanks to my wife who recognised some of the symptoms, and my brother who called an ambulance, which luckily for me arrived in 20 minutes.

The two paramedics Katherine and her colleague (sorry I didn’t catch her name) were amazing in getting me stabilised and into the vehicle. Don’t remember too much about the journey to Hairmyres but it got there very quickly.

Went straight into the Cath lab where this amazing team lead by Dr McDougall, assisted by Claire, Gemma, Andrea (who I believe was heading home but ended up firing up the defibrillator), Karen and Karen got to work inserting 2 stents after shocking me 5 times and a bit of CPR to keep me alive.

Later I was brought into CCU for recovery and monitoring, again a fabulous team of nurses Kirsten, Ann Marie, Campbell, Mary and Mhairi. I’m sure there were many more (my apologies for not catching all the names) who did everything to keep me well and comfortable. The banter was particularly good too.

At all times I was treated with respect and kindness, and all of the treatment very well explained to me. I would also like to mention Dr O’Rourke who was responsible for discharging me two days later.

I will never be able thank enough or repay all of these wonderful, caring, talented, patient and humorous angels who are responsible for me being alive and well today. God bless each and every one of you.

Dear SeanR

Thank you for taking the time to give such positive feedback. You have certainly been through a very difficult time and I am pleased to read that your family acted swiftly.

You have kindly mentioned so many staff and they will all appreciate your lovely comments. Please be assured that they will be shared with all of those mentioned as well as the wider team. They will also be pleased to know that the banter was good.

You have detailed the professional care that you required and I hope that you are continuing to receive support as such life threatening events can be very traumatic both physically and emotionally.

Thank you again for your comments.

wishing you all the best in your recovery.

Kind regards

Lise

Dear SeanR

Thank you so much for getting in touch through Care Opinion to let us know about your experience. I am so sorry to read about your heart attack, goodness me, this must have been really frightening for you and very worrying for your family to witness too.

I would be delighted to pass on your kind words to Katherine and colleagues if you would like? As all posts are anonymous, the only way we would be able to identify the staff would be if you contacted our team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your name, address and date of call out It would really helpful if you make reference to your CareOpinion username which will allow us to link up with this story

From all of us here at The Scottish Ambulance Service, we wish the very best and hope you are on the road to recovery.

Kind Regards

Lesley
