When I had my baby in March 2023 I had lots of ideas about being a new mam and how I was going to feed my baby, breast feeding all the way. The first few days were such a shock to the system in many ways, with feeding being challenging. I felt I was following all the guidance and trying to look after my new born but not doing it well and feeling that I was failing my baby.
My midwife suggested that I contact Debbie, their feeding support worker, after we chatted, she invited me along to a local feeding group which being on my door step was fantastic. I was able to speak about my concerns about being a new and older mam, feeding methods, nappy rash on baby, sleep deprivation and all my other baby concerns.
Debbie was great at providing me with reassurance that I was doing ok, my baby was being well fed, happy, content and achieving all the growth and development targets that they should. I still attend the weekly feeding group drop in sessions as I find they are a great way to touch base with the health visitor team and the feeding support workers. My baby is currently cutting teeth so having advice about teething and toothbrushing is really helpful.
From a social point I found the group a huge support on my parenting journey by introducing me to other mams and giving me a safe, comfortable and baby friendly place to go to, I really appreciate having the group to 'get out the house' for. The team support both myself and my baby,
I am preparing to go back to work soon, they again have provided the reassurance that my baby is developmentally where they should be and also ensuring that I feel confident and ready to go back to work.
"I found the group a huge support on my parenting journey"
