"We felt that the examination was inadequate"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Practices

(as a relative),

My husband had a bad fall. We saw the nurse practitoner who referred us to A and E because she was concerned that his oxygen levels were dropping, the pain from the ribs and chest infection. She spoke to the consultant on duty and gave us a letter to take with us.

We went straight from the surgery to the Hospital and were seen very quickly. The Doctor discussed what had happened and then examined him with his stethoscope. We were surprised and concerned that the Doctor used his stethoscope over my husband's clothes. My husband was wearing a thick sweater over a cotton polo shirt over a cotton vest and at no point did he look at his chest without the clothing.

My husband was given some oxygen and he also had an xray which was dealt with very efficiently.

We felt that we were rushed and not listened to and felt that the examination was inadequate

Morning Maria38

Im sorry for your experience in the Emergency Department. I would ask you to get in touch with the patient experience team so the Consultant in charge can look at this further.
