"I have been supported at every step of my journey"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre / radiology

(as a service user),

Following my diagnosis of breast cancer and surgery. I had radiotherapy treatment at the Beatson Oncology centre.

Prior to receiving my treatment I was very well informed by letter and phone call of what I could expect when I coming along for treatment. There was not a virtual tour I could come along to until the day before my treatment was to start. I contacted by email and they very kindly arranged for me to have a tour and support on  the day of my preparation appointment.

I met with Fiona, the radiologist, who was exceptional. Fiona was kind and caring, explained everything I needed to know before starting my treatment. Fiona was caring and supportive answering all my questions about my ongoing cancer journey, Fiona prepared me very well for what to expect prior to treatment and the effects after treatment. This was reassuring and put my mind at rest. Fiona was also able to give me information I could take away and read at a time where I felt ready for the information. I would like to thank Fiona for all her support.

The radiography staff throughout my journey, at  the  preparation scans they were so very supportive, explaining at every stage what they were doing and reason for doing things, for example measurements etc. they were aware of the fear and anxiety of a first appointment and were amazing with their kind and caring support.

Staff at treatment area J, I cannot thank all the staff enough for their care and support I received from their team  when I had radiotherapy.

Everyone was so genuinely kind, caring, knowledgeable with my questions and understood how hard it was to be there. They were very professional, patient with me, they asked daily how I was that day and I knew I was in very safe hands. I received one of my treatments at treatment room G as they were helping out, the radiography staff there were also  patient, kind and caring.

I received a follow up call one week after treatment, again it was so kind and caring and supportive, just knowing I could ask questions and be reassured of any of the concerns I had post treatment.

I would also like to mention the Beatson cafe, I stopped in there most days before my treatment, the staff there were so very kind and caring too.

Overall I have had the most amazing care and treatment from NHS GGC Beatson oncology centre. I have been supported at every step of my journey and can’t thank you enough for the work that you all do.

I have been well prepared by the team at the Beatson of what to expect for ongoing recovery and grateful for all the care and advice.

Thank you.
