"An astonishing ambassador for the NHS"

I was recently diagnosed with Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia and was experiencing severe Peripheral Neuropathy in both my hands and feet.  I was subsequently referred to the Palliative Care team at BCH for pain management.

Nurse Ruth was assigned to my case and from our first consultation, she put me immediately at ease. Ruth listened intensely as I explained the background to my diagnosis, details of the patterns and nature of the pain that I was experiencing and previous unsuccessful medications that had been prescribed.

Ruth researched my medical history and consulted with my Haematologist to ensure there would be no conflict with my ongoing chemotherapy treatment. She recommended to me the prescription of a 2nd neuropathic pain killer to be introduced gradually over a 3 week period. 

Ruth undertook to telephone me at agreed times over that 3-week period to check on progress and without fail honoured every one of those commitments.

Ruth is an amazing professional and over the course of that period regulated my medication to achieve optimum pain relief. She is an astonishing ambassador for the NHS.
