"Cervical smear pop up clinic in Arbroath Infirmary"

About: General practices in Tayside Gynaecology / Gynaecology Outpatients

(as the patient),

I attended the cervical smear pop up clinic in Arbroath Infirmary after receiving a text message from my GP surgery stating their records show I have not had a smear for 3 years and can attend the walk in clinic in Arbroath. I also saw it advertised on Facebook so knew the text was legitimate. I drove 25 mins from my home to Arbroath Infirmary to be told I’m not due a smear until 2025 and that I could leave despite being explaining I had received a text from the GP surgery encouraging me to attend. I find this very annoying as I have small children and have driven almost an hour round trip for nothing. I’m disappointed they didn’t just give me a smear test as I was there and had made the trip.

Dear Nn85

We are sorry to hear about your experience. The smear test has changed in frequency from 1 every 3 years to 1 every 5 years since introduction of primary HPV screening. It is unfortunate that you were alerted by your GP practice to have a smear test when you were not due. We are looking to see why this has happened. Meanwhile, we can only apologise for your experience.

Many Thanks,

Fiona

Dear Nn85

Thank you for taking the time to sharing details of this situation. Hopefully Fiona's response above helps explain why the service was unable to see you when you were there.

It would be useful to feed this back to your GP practice as feedback enables an organisation to reflect, identify areas for improvement and revise any processes as required.

Unfortunately GP Practices are not part of Care Opinion at this time, so we would recommend that you feedback your experience direct to the practice to enable them to make improvements as required. The Practice Manager can provide you with details on how to do this as part of their Complaints & Feedback Policy.

Kind regards

Victoria Sullivan
