"I am really disappointed in the situation"

About: West Scotland Breast Screening Centre

(as a service user),

I am approaching my 53rd birthday.  I have not had my first breast screening.  The first time contacting the centre in Glasgow last year I was advised my practice wouldn’t be taking part in the programme until the end of 2023, beginning of 2024.

Once into February I called my practice and they advised they did not know of any routine screening plans. I called Glasgow back to be advised the Stirling area screening would not be running for another 2-3 months.  By this time I will be past 53 and some of my work colleagues from around Scotland will have had their 2nd invite.

As a responsible NHS user I am keen to take part in any screening that offers early detection and intervention, which could improve patient outcomes and save money.  I am really disappointed in the situation.

Good Morning GEMB71

Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to you. We are extremely sorry your experience of our service appears poor to date and thank you for taking time to alert us to this.

The information you were provided by our call handling team was indeed correct at the time of your original call. Unfortunately since then an issue has been identified with the mobile screening unit based within Stirling Health and Care Village which has resulted in it being withdrawn from service for repair. It is hoped that this unit will be returned to service within the next 2 weeks. Unfortunately at this time the service did not have an alternate mobile screening unit to allow us replacement contingency.

The service IT system has safeguarding in place which alerts of any clients who have reached their 53rd birthday without having had a first breast screening offer of appointment. As you have advised you will shortly meet this criteria you will be prioritised for an appointment once the mobile unit returns to Stirling. You will receive a letter to contact us at this time.

Alternately if you wish to contact me directly I can advise you of alternate locations in which we are screening currently to see if any of them would suit you to attend before the mobile unit returns to Stirling.

Once more please accept my sincere apologies.

Kindest Regards

Marion Inglis

Breast Screening Business Manager

Thanks for the response & information.

Can I ask if the mobile unit at Stirling Community Hospital will be back in place soon?
