"Experience at children’s outpatients"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Imaging (Xrays and Scans)

(as a parent/guardian),

Our daughter attended for a test at the x-ray/imaging department at the outpatients department at the Children’s Hospital, Glasgow. Staff were lovely and good with our baby daughter.

The only thing to note is that my husband felt they were belittling him in his role of a father. My husband had to take my daughter for the test as I was elsewhere in the hospital with our son. Staff asked him - where’s mum? It was not an isolated event, as there was another father in the department who was also asked the same question.

If I was to have attended with my daughter I wouldn’t have been asked - where’s dad? So we don’t feel this question was necessary or relevant, when my husband is perfectly capable of caring for our daughter. I also feel that this could cause a lot of upset to some fathers.

Dear Nurse 1993

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am pleased to hear that the staff were lovely and good with your daughter. I am sorry to hear that your husband was left feeling belittled as a father. I am sure that this was not the staff’s intention. I will share your comments with the Team to avoid this happening again.

Please pass on my apologies to your husband.

Best wishes

Nicole
