"Grateful for the care and compassion I received"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Our NHS gets a lot of bad press but I had a very positive experience.

I attended A&E at Hairmyres Hospital recently. I had a nasty fall onto my right shoulder. 2 days later my arm was black and blue from my shoulder to my elbow and I was struggling to use it.

The waiting time for Minor Injuries was two hours. I was called around 45 minutes later, taken through and assessed by a lovely nurse. She sent me for x-rays to assess any damage. My x-rays were done promptly. I then returned to Minor Injuries where my lovely nurse showed me my x-ray. I had a clean break just below the head of my humerus. She then  gave me a full explanation of what to expect and put my arm in a sling. She also gave me strong painkillers and explained the follow up care I would receive.

I am so grateful for the care and compassion I received especially in such a busy area. Thank you to all the staff in the Minor Injuries Unit you are doing a wonderful job.

Dear janslat

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your treatment of your fracture in the minor injuries unit. I am pleased to read that you had a positive experience despite sustaining a fracture of your humerus. Understanding your injury and follow up care is very important and it is clear from your comments that time was taken by the nurse to explain what was happening and what to expect.

Your comments will be shared with the wider team as feedback is always appreciated and we learn from this.

I hope that your journey of recovery is a smooth one and that you are managing your injury. It can be very painful and initially very difficult with one arm in a sling.

Thank you again for your kind words.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery

Lise
