So after completing the long term DBT course (which was great, I couldn't fault it) I was still struggling and so was referred to MBT and told that my outpatient team had a meeting about me and decided to discharge me following the referral to MBT.
The whole of 2023 was the hardest year I have had in a long time. I spent the majority of it in crisis and asking for support from the outpatient team, support which never came. Because of how poor my mental health was, the MBT team decided I was in no fit state to continue with the therapy that they offered and agreed to talk to the outpatient team at Highbury to ask them to further support me. Once again, a CPA was held without my knowledge and decisions were made about my care without consulting me, my wife or my family on just how much I was struggling.
I had one appointment with a locum psychiatrist in which I broke down, sobbed and asked for help - their response was to up my medication to a dose that should not, in my opinion, exist (200mg of Sertraline) and send me on my way with a very weak statement that they would try and talk to my team about support (again).
I had seen my GP at this point and begged for help as I felt so alone and like I was being punished for being too ill to continue with therapy.
Once again a CPA meeting was held without my knowledge and without being asked where my mental state was, how I was coping or how my family were coping with supporting me (which was very badly) and I received a letter in the post saying that due to me being uncooperative with therapy, despite my decision to leave MBT being a joint one between myself and the team, I was being discharged immediately by the Highbury team.
So now I have no outpatient care, I have been discharged by the MBT team because they can't keep me on the books due to me not being well enough, no psychiatrist and I am left to deal with the aftermath of an incredibly hard year on my own.
Things have not been this bad with my mental health for a while and I am so upset with the way I was treated by the team at Highbury. It might be too late for me but I hope this post will make the team re-evaluate how they deal with people's cases going forward.
"Discharged with no warning, outpatient care poor"
