"a reassuring experience for me"

About: Cloughreagh House

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I could not fault Cloughreagh, it is an amazing place. The amount of care I got and the way it was delivered was excellent.

I was nervous about coming originally but within a few hours of arriving I really felt at home. I came at teatime and was given a beautiful fresh salad for my tea. The food has been wonderful.

The standard of hygiene is excellent, every surface is washed every day. I’m usually apprehensive about using public toilets but I had none of these reservations here because the place is spotless.

The staff have always come into my room with a smile on their face and time for a cheery word. To me this illustrates how much they love their jobs, I can’t speak highly enough of them.

There was one morning about 2.30 AM and I feeling sore and miserable sitting at the side of my bed. The staff member on duty saw me, brought me pain relief and also asked if I would like a cup of tea. She came back to me a short time later with a tray set beautifully with a little teapot, milk jug and a slice of bread with butter and jam. It was just beautiful and afterwards I was able to get back to bed and settle down to sleep again. I have also noted other people getting similar attention.

I would also like to commend the people who do the recruitment for here because the calibre of staff, their care and goodwill along with their person centred approach is excellent. It is just tops.

I was able to increase my independence with the support I got here. I could try doing things for myself with the knowledge that help was at hand should I need it, it has helped to build up my confidence for going home.

I also feel that my family benefited from my stay in Cloughreagh. It gave them time to recuperate from the shock of my accident which resulted in my injury and hospital admission, they could see a gradual improvement in me in advance of going home. I was delighted with the internet access as I was able to link in closely with my daughter and keep her updated on my progress.

Overall coming to Cloughreagh for 2 weeks has been a reassuring experience for me, I also feel the social aspect is good and I have enjoyed chatting to some of the characters here.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your stay in Cloughreagh House, it is hearting to know that you had such a wonderful experience and speak so positively about the Intermediate/Rehabilitation Care Service we provide.

I am delighted that you have regained your confidence and you feel more prepared to continue your recovery journey at home. You also mentioned your family and the trauma they also experienced because of your unfortunate accident, this has highlighted to me the need to consider this in the future, an accident like yours or any injury can have a significant impact on other family members.

Thank you so much for mentioning staff recruitment, hopefully your story will encourage other people to consider working in our service. All new staff participate in a comprehensive and robust induction where their strengths and training needs are met. All staff are required to complete mandatory training and encouraged to attend training which will enhance their skills and knowledge. We recognise that our service is ever changing and that the needs of the service users who access the ICS is diverse. We fully understand that staff training is essential and necessary to enable us to deliver person centred care.

Thank you again for sharing your story, I have shared your feedback with the staff team, they are delighted that they have made a difference and would like to wish you a speedy recovery.

Kind Regards

Kate Mc Beth
