"Compassionate ED nurses after seizures"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

After having a prolonged seizure I was accompanied to Ulster ED.

The waiting times were long, and there was a lack of drinking facilities overnight, and I was there throughout the night and morning shifts. But staff were wonderful!

From triage, to getting bloods and obs, seeing the doctor on that night and then the morning consultant. All listened and made the experience so much easier. They helped me avoid excess worries and were so compassionate.

Special thank you to nurses Mikaela, Lisa and doctor Claire and consultant Keith!

Also a huge thank you to epilepsy nurse Beth for following concerns up!

Dear asd90

My name is Conor Campbell. My position is Senior Manager, Assurance and Improvement with a leading role in improving the service user experience - which includes responding to any person who tells their story through Care Opinion in order to help the organisation learn and improve.

Thank you for sharing the story of your experience in the care of the Ulster Hospital Emergency Department team.

It is great to learn that you have been looked after so well by the wonderful individuals who make up this team.

As you have highlighted, it is so important that our care journeys enjoy both high-quality clinical care and a compassionate and caring experience where patients and families are listened to and their worries eased.

I have shared your positive feedback to Mikaela, Lisa, Claire, Keith and the team at Emergency Department who greatly appreciate your kind words.

I have raised your point regarding drinking facilities with service leadership for consideration / action. Thank you for raising this opportunity for improvement.

I wish you only the best going forward.

Best wishes

Conor

Hi asd90

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of your time in ED. I am delighted to hear you received excellent care throughout and I do hope you are continuing to improve.

I will ensure the staff receive the feedback you have shared and they will very much appreciate your kind comments.

As Conor has mentioned the water fountains not working has been raised with the estates team and some interim and longer term plans are in place to improve them.

Kind Regards

Jenny

ED Lead Nurse
