"I was immediately put at ease by the staff"

About: Parklands Hospital / Juniper Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

After arriving at night and not really knowing what to expect I was immediately put at ease by the staff. Nothing has been too much trouble. It took me 3 days to settle and be brave enough to venture out into the garden. From the word go there has always been someone to talk too at anytime. The Psychology and Psychiatry Teams have been very supportive. Talking really is the biggest healer and i now know that's what I need to do.

The activities arranged , be it yoga, walking or any of the various things to do, help immensely. The food is always varied and plentiful. You will never starve here!

The cleaning staff also have a very tough job and always perform.

The hard part for me has been finding somewhere to live after leaving here. That is in no way the fault of Parklands, just the system itself. It probably didn't help that we dealt with Reading Council as that was my desired area. The Social Worker was relentless in her efforts to get me recognised as being an urgent priority. After many weeks of persistence i was finally able to secure a room in a shared house.

I can't thank you all enough for getting me through this period of my life and will be forever grateful. You are an amazing team of people and you should be very proud of what you have here in Juniper Ward xxxx

Thank you so very much for being so open and honest about your journey and this very difficult time in your life.

I'm so pleased that you felt that nothing was too much trouble arriving on the ward at night can make you feel vulnerable. Its so important to know that you can talk to anyone at anytime and feel supported.

I really do hope that you continue to recover and settle in your new accommodation.
