I had an appointment today to remove a tooth, this had been going on for 3 years or so, various dental appointments, xrays, going far afield as not all dentists do certain treatments.
I, like many a nervous person, am not good at having faith & trust in dentists. I have overcome a lot so that I can access treatment & in a strange way to ensure dentists can provide treatment without me getting nervous while they are treating me, believe me many a cut gum, lip, not accessing treatment earlier or extra numbing as its worn off.
So finally I get to to the appropriate dentist who explained everything, certainly allayed any fears or nervousness and treatment plan was put in place. Come the day for my treatment (yay I'll be, fingers crossed pain free & no more antibiotics, pain relief & I will be able to wear my mouthguard, yep I had looked on all the positives) to get there to be told there was a change of plan..... it did have an impact on me, I felt I had wasted the Dentist's valuable time, that awful feeling of being back to square one & reality, knowing the tooth throb etc will continue.
I fully understood everything that was said to me, the reasons why there was a change, plus there's a way forward, I hope, there isn't a definite answer as yet so yes I'll need to be patient but there is a different course... to know that this change was decided prior to the appointment it would have been good to have the 'head's up' prior to the appointment such as a 'near me' vc or a telephone consultation, my nervousness would have been reduced,& my expectations definitely lessened.
I needed to attend as other checks were done, which was fine (apologies for not clenching my teeth fully). My time wasn't wasted as I am always grateful for the NHS.
