"My stay in 2a crosshouse"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I feel I have been treated terribly by the staff in 2a. I have a fractured knee which somehow doesn't seem to be written on any notes. I was also in a 4 bedded unit with 3 males which was fine they were lovely older gentlemen. I was approached by a staff nurse while my daughter was in visiting me to tell me I had no option but to move to another bed in a ward as someone less mobile than me needed the bed at this point. I currently can't mobilise due to not being able to weight bear on my leg for 8 weeks. I also cut my right leg to the tendons and required surgery. I got upset and then the ward sister came in and told me I was going to another (7th) bed and I had no choice and she would just move the bed as the patient required 3 people to move them. I struggle with anxiety and mental health issues and was finally settled and doing well in the ward - this had now given me a huge set back.

I was then moved into a room on my own to which the ward sister came in and I felt intimidated by them. I could also hear people talking about me outside my room saying they were sick of me. This isn't acceptable. The lack of care and compassion is shocking.  I think I needs to be addressed. Also, one night I had a nurse come and give me morphine while I was on commode, which squirted on my face. The nurse then laughed and refused to give me anymore. I have also spoken with the dietician, as cereals make me sick, so was told I could have bacon roll in morning. However, every single morning this becomes an issue and I get refused it. I have cried and broke my heart since I've came in. And feel like I'm being bullied and picked on. Which isn't nice at all.

The staff were speaking about me yesterday and another patient heard them saying I was put in the 'naughty room'. I wasn't given my medication and they refused to give me it when I asked. I didn't pass urine all day and was ignored with this also. Staff were talking about me in a derogatory way, standing outside my room so I could hear them. I wasn't offered a wash and I had no towels. My bed wasn't changed since last week.

Dear Macted

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your feedback, which you have kindly taken the time to share with us.

I am very sorry to read about your poor experience whilst you were in the Ward. Please be assured that this is not the person-centred care that we aim for.

Whilst we always aim to provide care that safe, caring and respectful, we do recognise that sometimes there is room for improvement. Hearing of this directly from our patients is one of the best ways for us to learn and improve.

Unfortunately, it is difficult for us to look into specific concerns raised as Care Opinion is completely anonymous. However, your feedback has been passed to the ward team for their reflection and learning, and to allow them the opportunity to improve the experience for other people admitted to the Ward.

Please accept my best wishes and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
