My journey of care began with my initial consultation with Mr Pollock in OPD at QMC following referral by my local hospital. Immediately I felt at ease and had great confidence in Mr Pollock as I was treated as an individual human being. A full explanation of the proposed plan was described and understood by my wife and I.
I duly attended a comprehensive pre-op assessment by Rachael and Louise which was most informative, friendly, and very professional, Thank you.
We booked the hospital hotel for 4 nights for my wife during my surgery, comfortable accommodation, and kind and supportive staff throughout our stay, thank you all.
Day 1: Met by Andrew in the pre-operation preparation suite. Andrew was extremely polite, knowledgeable, professional, and supportive throughout. Completed my preparation for theatre, along the way Mr Daly who was to perform my operation introduced himself and explained the operation in full and I duly signed the well-informed consent form. Seen by anaesthetist Dr Latter who immediately I had great confidence in. Escorted to the anaesthetic room and met by the whole team who gave a boost to my confidence. Altogether a very efficient, pleasant, and professional start to my surgery.
Post-op I was transferred to the EPOC ward, where the care was outstanding, My care so far had followed a very personal plan individual to me and everyone followed the plan consistently not only in the physical sense but also me as an individual was paramount. I cannot remember the name of everyone, for which I apologise, but rest assured you were all fantastic. I must mention Tomasz as he makes the best toast in Nottingham and seemed to have a never ending supply of warm blankets (luxury).
Eventually transferred to Harvey 2 ward where the outstanding care continued, again teamwork was the essence, Led by Sisters Rachael and Fiona and the whole team (too many to mention though I am sure you know who you are). Thank you to the whole team including the guy who cleaned my room, we had some nice conversations.
I reluctantly mention the food. It must be difficult to cater for so many people of differing needs and let’s face it, when austerity hits, the budget for food diminishes first. I think maybe look for a good pastry chef and the presentation as I am sure the waitresses would present the food with more enthusiasm if they trusted the quality. I must say I did rather enjoy the steak and ale pie.
I was made to feel a bit special following a visit from Dr Latter and a member of her team to see how I was getting on.
Since discharge, I have attended the Gillies dressing clinic for clip and drain removal and subsequently had to phone them for advice. My calls were dealt with kindness, understanding, and professionalism by Sophie and Sarah. Dr Brookes was also most reassuring and kind to my wife. Thank you all
In summary, I would say my care throughout at Nottingham City Hospital has been outstanding from absolutely everyone. Thank you all so much. I am most humbled and very grateful.
"The truly remarkable care I received"
