"Referral for urgent scan/appointment"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Neurology (Brain, Spinal and Nerves) General Practices in Grampian

(as a service user),

I had a fall in December 2022 when we had bad snow, which has resulted in extreme pain down my entire back, reduced movements in my legs, balance problems, and weakness of my arms/hands. I have fell numerous times as a result of my injury. Went to the doctor who referred me for an urgent scan/appointment. Still hadn’t received any information of this appointment apart from two letters, one stating I had been referred and another asking if I still actually wanted an appointment. I then went back to the doctor, as my condition was getting worse, who said there was nothing they can do for me apart from sending another urgent referral to the hospital. We are now in January 2024 and I still haven’t been seen.

Phoned the hospital several times in the middle of 2023 where I feel I have just been fobbed off and told it’s a 60 week wait to be seen. I have just got off the phone to the hospital this morning who have now said it’s a 65 week wait and there’s nothing they can do about it.

I find this absolutely ridiculous and complete negligence. Whatever damage has been caused could now have long term affects/be irreversible as it has been left so long and no one seems to care.

In response to my above story - still had zero contact from anyone regarding this issue or regarding an appointment. Phoned the hospital this morning and they finally decided to give me an appointment. 2 year wait for an appointment is ridiculous, just hoping the damage is able to be corrected after this long and I’m not left like this forever.

Dear novembernz65,

I am sorry you have experienced such a delay in being seen the waiting list is unfortunately this long. The letter that is sent to ask if you still wish to be on the waiting list is sent to all patients and some people no longer wish to be seen.

Kind Regards

Alison
