"A wonderful job"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Elective Orthopaedics (Ward 7)

(as the patient),

I was on the waiting list for almost a year for elective hip replacement surgery, which I realise isn't long, but I was in a lot of pain, my mobility was much reduced. I got a phonecall to say I had a surgery date and was delighted but terrified in equal measure.

I attended the Joint School at UHH and was impressed by the presentation and information given. The morning of the surgery I checked in at the advised time, the usual checks were done and I was taken to the "Ready to go" room, after a few different folk asked various questions and filled in forms etc. I was taken to the theatre area. The anaesthetic team were all wonderful and treated me with care and consideration, they could see I was anxious.

Once I came to following the sedation I was taken to recovery then to the ward. Nursing staff, OT staff and physios were all great and very efficient. I was discharged a couple of days later almost pain free (operation pain only) and able to go home to my own bed!

Thank you to Mr Davison, his team, anaesthetic team, nursing staff and all AHP's, you all do a wonderful job and I very much appreciate the care and attention I have received throughout my time on the waiting list and my time as an inpatient.

Thank you Fergus for the very positive story that you have shared in relation to your experience within our elective programme.

Living with pain is not easy but I understand your anxieties about having a surgical procedure. Our Joint School is aimed at giving patients early information, advice and guidance on what should happen during their hospital stay and for their discharge home to allay those types of anxieties and fears that are all too common.

I am glad that you have had a great outcome and that our staff contributed to this.

I shall pass on your thanks to the Occuaptional Therapy team who work within the Orthopaedic ward and wish you well towards a full recovery.

Many thanks

Dear Fergus

Thank you for sharing your feedback. It is clear to see the difference that your surgery has had on your pain. As Helen says living with pain is so difficult and length of time is a long time when you are suffering.

Your lovely comments will be widely shared with the team members as they will be delighted that to see how their care impacted on your experience.

I hope that ypu continue to make a good recovery and wish you all the best for the future. Thank you again for your time.

Kind regards

Lise
