My wife who suffers from Dementia fell and broke her hip.
After surgery, while we as a family tried to find her a place in a nursing home, she was placed in Inver House, an Intermediate Care facility and part of the Moyle Hospital in Larne, Co. Antrim. It was anticipated by us as a family this would be a short stop and she would move on to a nursing home pretty quickly. This short stop lasted six months as there were so many disappointments when it came to getting a place in a nursing home.
That six months let me see the NHS and Inver House in particular at its best. I believe that a happy workplace creates a more productive workforce and I witnessed the living proof of this every day. I am not overstating this when I say that I watched nurses and HCAs going about their task with a smile and often singing. It was a pleasure to witness the love for their chosen vocation.
My wife because of her dementia could be difficult and aggressive and the love, compassion and dignity with which she was treated on a daily basis was a joy to behold and was much appreciated by us as a family. This didn't stop at my wife as we as a family received more love and friendship in that six months than I can ever remember being the recipient of in such a short space of time.
I also discovered that everyone was very approachable from HCAs right through to the two deputy sisters and their immediate superior.
What we experienced cannot be provided on prescription and the love and care that my wife and we as a family received went far beyond duty.
From this family, a massive and heartfelt thank you to all staff at Inver House for what you did for us.
"A massive and heartfelt thank you to all staff"
