My son is two years old and has few words and has delayed speech. I made a self referral to Lisburn health centre. I received a letter asking me to call to arrange a first contact appointment and that appointment would be via zoom, phone or face to face. I rang and made an appointment and was advised this would be via zoom and was sent an email with log in details.
I was under the impression this was a meeting to discuss my concerns about my son one on one. I had made notes of points I wanted to discuss. I was very disheartened when I joined the zoom and other parents where also present and it was a generic powerpoint presentation.
I think going forward the process should be outlined and made clearer. I am glad my husband also had not taken time out of work to attend given this wasn't specific for our son. I am unsure what the steps are now going forward - I believe the waiting list is approx four months to see a therapist. But is this a once off appointment or how often will my son be reviewed? I think again more clarity around the process would be really useful for parents who are already anxious about this.
