"I received excellent care and felt so supported"

About: University Hospital Monklands / General Surgery (Wards 4 & 7)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to ward 4 Monklands hospital as an emergency in the early hours of Thursday 4th January 2024. I stayed on ward 4 prior to surgery and was transferred back following the surgery.

I am a Senior Charge Nurse within GGC NHS and have very high expectations of the care and treatment I should expect as a patient within hospital- I can honestly say the staff in ward 4 and those who fed into the ward went above and beyond, especially the nursing staff within the ward. I received excellent care and felt so supported during a very difficult time I’m my life, the nursing staff just new what to say, when to hold my hand, and treated me and my family with kindness, care and compassion making my time in hospital much easier. They were a listening ear when things were overwhelming they gave me all the information and support they could to ensure my family and I were fully informed.

The ward was obviously very busy however it was extremely obvious to me that the ward is managed very well, every member of staff was polite, helpful and carried out their role to an exceptional standard. I want to recognise that each member of staff (I won’t mention individuals as there are too many) had their own unique qualities, strengths and attributes, they all treated me as an individual and went out of their way to make sure my family were supported.

I had a fantastic surgeon (Mr Dick) who kept myself and my husband fully informed and ensured we fully understood what my treatment involved- Mr Dicks manner was exceptional and both myself and my husband felt extremely confident in the treatment him and his team provided me with.

The Stoma care team (Tracey and Isabel) were absolutely amazing! They were extremely supportive, knowledgeable and very understanding during a very tough time for me, they were both so supportive and I will be forever grateful to them both in how they helped me and continue to support me in my journey.

I really don’t have the words to express my gratitude to all of the staff on ward 4 for the care they provided me with during my admission and in preparation for my discharge. Please know that me, my husband and my family are truly grateful for everything you all did, it made such an impact and made things a whole lot easier for us- you all deserve credit and respect- keep up the amazing work you all do, you are definitely angels in disguise ❤️

Dear Avril,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Monklands, General Surgery.

I am so pleased to hear that you have had such an excellent experience with your recent surgery. It is always amazing to receive such fantastic feedback from our patients but it is especially excellent to hear this from a fellow NHS staff member who has high standards and expectations. I am so pleased we delivered on this for you. It must have been very reassuring for you that you were well informed and cared for at all stages.

It is extremely rewarding for staff to be recognised and I would be delighted to share your kind words and feedback with Mr Dick, Tracey, Isabel and the wider team. I am sure they will all get a real boost from hearing this.

I hope you are recovering well.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
